Pirelli motorsport chief Mario Isola is concerned about potential pit lane issues during the Monaco Grand Prix due to long safety car periods, as using at least three tyre sets is now mandatory, requiring a “genius” approach from strategists to navigate the race. F1 will see a new challenge with each car mandated to stop twice for the first time in an effort to enhance the entertainment value of the iconic Monaco race. Some teams, especially those with drivers starting farther back, may opt for unconventional strategies, adding to the unpredictability of the event. The handling of Pirelli tyres will play a crucial role in determining teams’ strategies, with the introduction of the new soft C6 compound adding another layer of complexity after its previous underutilization at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. While unconventional approaches like making both pit stops early in the race are possible, Isola advises against it due to potential safety car disruptions negatively impacting race outcomes. The requirement for two stops introduces significant uncertainty, challenging strategy engineers to account for various unknown factors and paving the way for a more intriguing and unpredictable Monaco Grand Prix.
